Finished the audible graffiti project, it's a little bit Banksy and Euan Euglow...based on image-segmentation algorithms (Hough transform, line detection, etc) that convert stenciled images into QR-codes that map to sampled sounds. the real-time version is based on a matlab script that processes a video feed into an 8x8 array of values based on color/light intensity/edge detection. Idea is to compose and play music mapped to a monome with imagery/colors from the gallery. It's sort of like the monome-based piece I had up in the winter but this one requires audience dance participation... sequined, colourful clothing helps too.

Congrats Matt and Jamilah! Had an interesting chat with a painter at their wedding about the dynamic range/bit depth of our color perception and how the process of "binning" color into words affects their interpretation. Never really thought about it in a quantitative sense (neuro, fMRI, etc.), but it would be cool to join that idea with our audiutory dynamic range/discerning capability in terms of frequency and how language affects either.or. (similar to ikeda's work, but with color) the output images from the audible graffiti project are starting to look more like Ellsworth Kelly now after this conversation. I love this city...

Blues In Brooklyn, the kids songwriting workshop Brad and I taught, has finished and the album is available at 826nyc in Park Slope. You can check out a few clips here. (I highly recommend "White Tree Frog" by Fractured Arden, or for a more symphonic piece, "Let me watch a movie" by Not Fair Beck.) A big thanks goes out to Josh Sinton for the woodwinds on the album. Here's a clip of Anand's protest song from the summer workshop and some photos.
